Letter: Paynesville Bypass is good
I want to thank those who helped with the Paynesville Highway 23 bypass project. The people of Paynesville were great. Thanks also to former Senators Norm Coleman and Mark Dayton, Rep. Collin Peterson and former Rep Mark Kennedy. Peterson led the coordination in Washington. This bipartisan effort for what's best for west central Minnesota was appreciated. They knew that we are the only direction from the Twin Cities without a four-lane highway.
Thanks to MnDOT for all their help and who managed the project. And thanks to the contractor and all the subcontractors who helped make this project come in on budget and opened early; this does not happen very often in the building of roads.
Thanks to the Highway 23 task force who helped me whenever needed. Economic development was always our goal. You can see all kinds of activity along the I-94 to Willmar corridor and it looks great. West Central Minnesota should be proud.
Now we need to "fill the gap" on Highway 23.
Friday was a good day just like the Spicer-New London opening was.
After 50 years of talking about a four-lane Highway 12 and then finding out that would never happen, MnDOT suggested we use Highway 23, which was an interregional highway, if we could show support.
Well, we did it. A 350-person road rally from Willmar to Cold Spring. Look at what we have done in 15 years by working together
