Letter: Preserve the people's will
For nearly 100 years the Boston Catholic Charities has helped thousands of families with adoptions. Many of these involved special needs or hard-to-place children.
However, in 2004 the Massachusetts Supreme Court ordered homosexual marriage. In order to comply with state law, Catholic Charities would now have to place children with same-sex couples, in violation of Catholic teaching. Sadly, they decided to end their adoption services. "This is a tragedy for the kids" was the response of the president of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
What happened to First Amendment rights? Redefining the definition of marriage will threaten the free exercise of religion. Voting yes on the marriage amendment will help prevent a few activist judges from overturning the will of the people.
