Letter: Respect on Veterans Day
If Veterans Day was intended to show respect for those that have fought wars, put their life on the line for others or made personal sacrifices for the greater good, then why do so many federal, state and bank employees get the day off as well?
It should be if you are an honorably discharged veteran with a DD214 form filed with the Veterans Service office that you deserve the day off . If your employer wants to step up and pay an employee, that would be honorable.
So many people are getting the day off that have never even stood a midnight watch or put themselves in harm's way or sailed in 30-foot seas. This needs to be set straight out of respect.
