Letter: Tension on the City Council

Email

The Willmar Area League of Women Voters had their monthly meeting Oct. 14, and listened to a very interesting presentation about the Willmar City Charter.

After a time of questions and answers discussion, we agreed it was very important to begin attending the public meetings of our city government.

As observers, LWV members became acutely aware of the tense environment at the City Council meeting on Oct. 21. Citizens who were present in the conference room of the Willmar Municipal Building experienced a heightened concern firsthand for the City Council members’ conduct as they completed the evening’s agenda.

We will continue to advocate for good governance with our presence. We invite other citizens to join us as observers at the public meetings of Willmar city government — the council meetings as well as committee meetings and the upcoming Vision 2040 planning meetings on Nov. 20 at 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Conference Center and from 6 to 8 p.m. at WEAC. The public is encouraged to attend. Andrea Carruthers and Claire Juhnke Co-Presidents, Willmar Area League of Women Voters
