Letter: A third-rate country
What a short memory Paul Hoffer, co-chairman of the Kandiyohi County Republican Party (Public Forum, Sept. 1), has. While George W. Bush was driving the country into a bigger depression than the one that started in 1929, the same people were fighting against term limits.
We don't need term limits, we need people to vote out the people that drove us into this depression. The same people that took eight years to drive into this mess are now yelling that it is President Obama's fault because he hasn't been able to fix the country in 18 months.
In Bush's eight years, besides the cost of his war of hatred on the Muslims of Iraq, he moved millions upon millions of jobs to China. There are no jobs here because the rich Republicans built their factories in China so they could make a 1,000 percent profit. China passed Germany in exports mainly because the U.S. makes next to nothing here. It is all made in China.
I forgot; Tom Emmer says you can become a waitress or waiter and make a $1,000 a month in tips. Yeah, right.
After the 1929 crash of this country by Republicans, this country put Democrats in control for the next 16 to 20 years and this country prospered. Now the Republicans yell "he is favor of abortion or gay rights" and the gullible people buy this rhetoric, while the Republicans drive this country and this state farther and farther in the hole which is making us a third-rate country.
The EU under the leadership of France and Germany is now a major world power and if we follow the ideas of Pawlenty, Bachmann, Emmer, Palin, and the rest of the Republican leadership, we will no longer be known as the greatest but as a fourth-rate country with crazies leading us, as we already were known under George W. Bush with no respect anyplace in the world.
