Letter: Tired of property flooding

Email

Are you tired of stormwater issues?

The neighbors of 10th Street and Kandiyohi Avenue are. Let's come together and show the city a united front. The Jorgensons lost their home... who will be next?

Why are we allowing the city to continue to use our properties? Why are we allowing them to decrease the value of our homes? Destroying the infrastructure? Not to mention all of the public safety issues involved with this constant problem.

We as homeowners did not buy properties to see the values go down and to allow the city to use our land as their holding ponds. In the past year we have had three major flooding events: Aug. 15 to Aug. 26, 2009; April 13 and again on June 11. This is not street flooding, this is property flooding. As a group we are a lot stronger than as one. If you would like your voice heard, or would just like to support your neighbors, please plan on attending the following meetings:

- The Public Works/Safety Committee meeting at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday in conference room 1 at the City Office Building. If you would like to speak at this meeting I would recommend that you contact Doug Reese as he is the chairman and ask him to allow you a few moments to speak. His home phone number is 235-6011 and work number is 235-4874.

- City Council meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the council chambers at the Willmar Municipal Utilities, 700 Litchfield Ave. S.W. There is open forum for all citizens to address the council. Ward 2 Council members are: Tim Johnson, home phone number 235-2014, and Ron Christianson, home number 235-5021 and work number 230-5020.
