I see now that the Obama administration is planning on suing the state of Arizona over the recently passed legislation (Arizona SB 1070) requiring police officers to check the immigration status of any person that they have contact with and suspect that they may be an illegal alien.
Arizona Senate Bill 1070 states; "For any lawful contact made by a law enforcement official or agency of this state or a county, city, town or other political subdivision of this state where reasonable suspicion exists that the person is an alien who is unlawfully present in the United States, a reasonable attempt shall be made, when practicable, to determine the immigration status of the person. The person's immigration status shall be verified with the federal government pursuant to United States code section 1373(c)."
It all seems pretty simple to me.
A reasonable person surely would conclude that our federal tax dollars would be much better spent in securing our southern border with Mexico, which would help to stem the flow of illegal drugs and illegal aliens into America, all of which are costing billions of American tax dollars.
Arizona has done nothing more than to tell their law enforcement personnel to enforce the federal law. Something that is required of a peace officer when they are sworn in is to uphold and protect the Constitution of the United States.
Simply stated, enforce the federal law. I'm curious: What is the Obama administration going to sue for? Is it going to be to not enforce the federal law?
These laws have been on the books for decades. Also as president of the United States of America, when he took his oath of office he swore to protect and uphold the Constitution of the United States of America.
