Letter: Watch council for yourself

I've just finished watching the Aug. 20 special Willmar City Council meeting on the organizational study and could not be more frustrated. I strongly encourage each of you to watch this meeting. It is typical of our council's behavior.

Examples: A request for input from the general public, but when the public speaks in opposition to their point of view, the public is accused of being a "special interest group."

A paranoia that there are secret, ulterior motives on the part of anyone willing to think outside the box.

The assumption government is only interested in power.

Personal attacks on other council members who disagree with them.

Council members who are unable to see the big picture. (Evaluating an organization's structure is intended to be high level. Once direction is determined, the details follow.)

Honestly, I could accept the council's decision if it was made in a thoughtful, professional and mature manner.

Please, invest an hour of your time to watch the special council meeting on the organizational study.

This invitation includes council members. Some should be proud of themselves. Some should be embarrassed at how disrespectfully they treat others.

And then, don't complain that the West Central Tribune is picking on you when you publicly display this type of behavior. See for yourself.

The meeting will also be televised on WRAC TV-18 at noon and 9 p.m. Aug. 26 and 28; 11:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Aug. 27; 12:30 and 9:30 p.m. Aug. 30; and 2 and 9 p.m. Sept. 1.
