Letter: Welcome the new administrator

I hope the city of Willmar is as excited as I am with the impending arrival of the new city administrator.

I personally welcome Charlene Stevens as the new administrator for the city of Willmar and wish her the best of luck in her commitment to serve the city.

This new leadership for our city is long overdue. We need new ideas and leadership to really take us into the 21st century. There are many problems that she will have to address, and I truly hope the current council will support her in trying to right some of the wrongs that have occurred over the last 10 years or so.

Michael Schmit, our current administrator, has performed his job very well over the years. I wish him the best of luck in his retirement.

Ms. Stevens will give the city a new outlook to our future and I feel she will be able to handle the problems that come before her. However, she will need the support of the council and the citizens of Willmar in this endeavor.

I am also hoping that the council can now act as a council should, and question actions and policies of the city without being browbeaten by an administrator. I have felt that with my previous activity with the council and city functions, the council has been seen as the employee and not the employer as they were elected to be.
