Letters: The billionaires of baseball

Email

Now that Joe Mauer, whom I consider to be a perfect example of "Minnesota Nice," is going in for salary arbitration, wouldn't it be nice if he could say, "Ah, shucks, $2 million a year is a great plenty for seven months' work, who needs more than that?"

A simple statement like that could make it possible for a grandpa like me to afford to take one of my grandsons to an overpriced baseball game and still be able to afford grandma's over-priced prescription medicine.

When learning of the ridiculous salaries paid to members of the Yankee baseball team, one can't help but think the game has become a toy for billionaires who can buy and sell athletic franchises and players who have no regard for us sports lovers.
