Local Golf: Jacobson ousted in Mid-Players' Championship

MORTON -- Andy Jacobson reached the semifinals of the 6th Minnesota Golf Association Mid-Players' Championship, but the Willmar native's bid to return to the championship match was cut short by the tourney's No. 3 seed Tuesday at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club.

Jacobson, the No. 18 seed, ousted No. 7 James Lehman of Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence 4 and 3 in the quarterfinals. Jacobson won four of the first five holes before Lehman won No. 9 and 10 to pull within one. Jacobson then won No. 11, 14 and 15 to end the match early.

Jacobson, who calls Eagle Creek his home course, kept some of the momentum going in the semifinals by winning two of the first five holes against No. 3 Jesse Larson of Le Sueur Country Club. But Larson won No. 6 and 7 to take a slim lead.

Jacobson squared the match after winning No. 10, 12 and 13, but Larson then won No. 15, 16 and 17 -- carding two less strokes on each hole -- to advance to the final.
