BELGRADE -- Lorraine Thompson, 81, of the Belgrade and Brooten area, died June 11 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Big Grove Lutheran Church in rural Belgrade. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and for one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
She was born July 5, 1926, on the family farm near Bertha to Gustav and Louise Drawbert. She graduated from Bertha High School and then St. Cloud Teachers College. She worked at the munitions plant during World War II and at Blue Bell Lodge Resort. After her schooling was completed, she taught in Staples from 1946 to 1948. She moved to Madras, Ore., where she taught until 1950. She returned to Minnesota.
She married Ralph A. Thompson on July 2, 1950, in Bertha. She taught in the North Fork Country Schools and Belgrade and Brooten elementary schools. They lived in rural Belgrade where they farmed.
She was a member of Big Grove Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and served in WELCA. She served as a 4-H adult leader and was a member of the North Fork Township Homemakers. She volunteered at the food shelf, as a driver for Lutheran Social Services and helped the local literacy foundation. She had provided foster care prior to having her own family.
She is survived by her children: Loren (and Linda) Thompson of Richfield, Linda Watkins of Champlin, Larry (and Paula) Thompson of Belgrade; a grandson; and a sister: Dorothy Patterson of California.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 16, 2000, and four siblings.
