GLENWOOD -- Lowell A. Doebbert, 86, of Glenwood, died Thursday at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
He was born April 27, 1922, in Canby to Louis and Anna (Borchard) Doebbert. He grew up on farms in the Canby and Madison areas and graduated from West Central School of Agriculture in Morris. He later enrolled at the University of Minnesota College of Agriculture. He enlisted in the Army Enlisted Reserve Corp in September 1942 and was called to active duty in April of 1943. After his discharge he returned to the University of Minnesota and graduated.
He married Gloria Kamps on July 27, 1947. He taught in Warren and Forest Lake. He began farming in Glenwood in 1950, before returning to teach in Kimball and Cyrus. He became a principal and, after earning his master's degree, worked as a high school counselor in Glenwood. He became the first counselor at the Alexandria AVTI (now the Alexandria Technical College) where he worked until his retirement. He farmed after retirement. They moved to Glenwood in 1988.
He was a member of the Vikingland Chordsmen barbershop chorus for 20 years and the Central Lakes Concert Association. He was a member of the Gideons, the Lions Club and many church groups. He was on the board of the Lutheran Campus Ministry at the University of Minnesota-Morris for 39 years.
He is survived by his wife; his children: Gwendolyn Doebbert (and husband Richard Epstein) of Sacramento, Calif., Jan (and Nancy) Doebbert of Glenwood and Belvin (and JoEllen) Doebbert of Glenwood; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four siblings.
