LQPV first at own baseball invite

MADISON -- Lac qui Parle Valley scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg and win the four-team LQPV Invitational on Saturday.

LQPV defeated Dawson-Boyd 11-1 in the semifinals, while KMS topped Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 12-2.

Semifinals

Lac qui Parle Valley 11, Dawson-Boyd 1

Eric Paulson slugged a solo homer in the fifth inning and finished 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Eagles. Jacob Redepenning also knocked in a pair of runs.

Paulson went the distance in the five-inning game, allowing only two hits and one walk, while striking out six.

Nate Roisen and Kollin Dahl had the Dawson-Boyd hits.

The Fighting Saints rapped out 16 hits, including three each from Jonah Johnson, Aaron Doraska and Joe Buck.

Tyler Dick, Isaac Froehlich and Brendan Hjelle had two hits each for KMS. Johnson, Dick and Doraska drove in two runs each.

Isaac Froehlich pitched all five innings for the win. He gave up five hits and three walks, while fanning two.

The Eagles trailed 5-2 before mounting a comeback, scoring twice in the last of the fifth and then four times in the sixth.

Down 6-4 in the sixth inning, LQPV's Trent Hansen singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a double by Sam Haas to make it 6-5. With two outs, Seth Haas reached on an error with Sam Haas scoring the tying run. The next batter was hit by a pitch before another error plated Seth Hass with the go-ahead run. The Eagles then tacked on an insurance run on an RBI single by Preston Kraft.

Brandon Bornhorst, the third LQPV pitcher, earned the win with 12/3 innings of hitless relief.

Kraft and Joey Schreck each went 3-for-4 for LQPV. The Eagles outhit KMS 11-6.

Brendan Hjelle took the loss in relief.

Jonah Johnson drove in two runs for KMS. Kyle Baker went 2-for-2 and drove in a run.
