LQPV/DB's Hansen lone area tennis player left at state

MINNEAPOLIS -- Jack Hansen of Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd will see another day of state singles competition today as he tries to navigate his way through the consolation bracket of the Class A state tennis tournament.

Hansen will face David Mihm of Eveleth-Gilbert in singles competition at 8 a.m. today at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis. A win could push him into the consolation championship final in the afternoon.

Hansen started Thursday with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to John Hill of St. Paul Academy and Summit and followed with an afternoon 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win over Jake Thompson of Crookston in the consolation bracket.

The LQPV/DB singles star is the only area individual to advance to the second day of singles or doubles competition in the state tournament.

MACCRAY's Mitch Kremin started singles competition Thursday with a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Jordan Peterson of Staples-Motley. He ended the tournament by losing to Pine City's Derek Lutz 6-2, 6-0.

West central Minnesota had three doubles teams head to state, but all were eliminated from competition by the end of Thursday.

Ben Murphy and Steven James of Benson/KMS defeated Patrick Raddatz and Brandon Arentson of Redwood Valley 6-0, 6-2, but fell to Dillon Titcomb and Harry Whitaker of St. Paul Academy and Summit 6-0, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the championship bracket.

Raddatz and Arentson loss their second match Thursday to Connor Rust and Brian Utz of Rochester Lourdes 6-1, 6-1 in the consolation bracket.

Montevideo's Josh Connell and Dakota Frazier also struggled in state competition, losing both of their matches. The pair lost their first match to Tips Jackley and Ford Traff of Blake 6-0, 6-0, and the second to Javon Bea and Robert Turlington of Rochester Lourdes 6-0, 6-0.
