MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Lynx have acquired center Janel McCarville, the former college teammate of star point guard Lindsay Whalen.
The trade was completed Friday.
The Lynx gave up shooting guard Candice Wiggins, their top reserve who was a restricted free agent. Wiggins went to Tulsa in a sign-and-trade deal. The Lynx also gained a 2014 second-round draft pick from the Shock.
McCarville was on Minnesota's 2004 Final Four team with Whalen. She hasn't played in the WNBA since 2010, playing overseas instead, but she's sure to be a fan favorite with the Lynx.
McCarville was the first overall pick in the 2005 draft by the Liberty. The 6-foot-2 native of Stevens Point, Wis., is the all-time leader in blocked shots and field-goal percentage for the Gophers. She's second in rebounds.
