MACCRAY stays alive in 3A softball

MONTEVIDEO -- Ashley Forstrom hit a walk-off double with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning and MACCRAY defeated Renville County West 6-5 in a Section 3A loser's bracket softball game on Wednesday.

MACCRAY advances to play either Edgerton or Windom at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday in Raymond.

MACCRAY (16-6) trailed 5-0 before scoring five times in the last of the sixth to tie the game. The Wolverines amassed six of their 10 hits in that inning.

In the ninth, Brandi Bodin singled, stole second and scored on Forstrom double to win the game.

RCW (9-10) scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning, highlighted by two MACCRAY errors and a run-scoring double by Laura Bakker.

Alicia Koenen pitched 42/3 innings in relief of starter Bethany Hultgren for the win. Koenen allowed three hits and one runs, while walking two and striking out five.

Bodin went 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Forstrom went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple. Caylee Hagemeyer, Ashley Trulock, Carly Haas and Moranda Zimmer drove in a run each.
