Madison "wins" snow crown, 19 inches as of this morning
WILLMAR -- According to National Weather Service information, Madison has recorded the most snow in the state.
The Lac qui Parle county seat recorded 19 inches of snow as of 9:36 a.m. and is followed closely by 17 inches measured in the northwest portion of Eden Prairie.
As of 7 a.m., 16.3 inches of the white stuff had fallen south-southwest of Montevideo. Other area readings included 11 inches at Morgan as of 7:02 a.m., 10.5 in Redwood Falls, as of 5 a.m. and 8 inches in Litchfield, as of 6 a.m.
According to the weather service figures, the current snowfall guarantees that this winter will be at least the 11th snowiest on record in the Twin Cities. The current snowfall total, as of 6 a.m., is 73.4 inches. The average snowfall in the metro area is 55.9 inches.
The weather service expects another 1 to 3 inches of snow to fall today in Willmar. The blizzard warning for the region has been cancelled, but a winter weather advisory remains in place until noon.
Road conditions continue to be difficult, with blowing and drifting snow reducing visibility. MnDOT continues to advise motorists against traveling.
