GLENWOOD -- Majel Elaine Billehus, 84, of Glenwood, died April 4 at St. Cloud Hospital following a heart attack.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to a local humane society.

Arrangements are by Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

She was born Majel Henderson on June 16, 1924, in Spring Grove. Her biological father died shortly afterward. When her mother remarried, the family broke up and most of the children were adopted. At the age of 2, she went to the State Public School for Dependent Children, which was an orphanage. She remained there until she was 8 years old when she was adopted by Colonel Henry and Anna Catherine (Johnson) Gasman of Glenwood. Her name was changed to Majel Elaine Gasman, and she was raised in Glenwood.

On Feb. 2, 1946, she married Ralph Andrew Billehus in Sisseton, S.D. They lived in Glenwood, and she worked as a waitress at The Beanery and was a homemaker. She took care of her husband for nine years after he had a stroke. He died in 1984. She later moved to Glenhaven Manor in Glenwood

She is survived by her son: Ken of Hugo.

She was preceded in death by her husband.
