Mallards win NWL title over Duluth
DULUTH — The Madison Mallards didn’t leave any doubt, trouncing the Duluth Huskies in Game 2 of the Northwoods League championship 12-3 on Friday at Wade Stadium.
The Mallards won the best-of-three series 2-0 for their second NWL championship, their first coming in 2004.
Madison pounded out 22 hits, and scored at least one run in each of the first five innings.
Joe McCarthy was 5-for-6 with a home run, 4 RBIs and 4 runs scored.
Brock Stewart also homered and had three hits, and John LaPrise and Alex Bacon each had three-hit nights.
Andrew Arenson was the winning pitcher, working 5 innings and striking out 2.
Losing pitcher Luke Vandermaten lasted just 1.2 innings and surrendered 6 runs.
