Unconditional bail was set at $100,000. Lopez' next appearance in Kandiyohi County District Court is Aug. 31. He also faces a misdemeanor assault charge in the burglary case.

According to the drug complaint, Willmar Police were looking for a suspect in an assault with a knife case around 12:45 a.m. Thursday in the area of the Willow Run Apartments along 15th Street Southwest. An officer entered one of the complex's buildings through a door that was propped open and recognized Lopez, who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

After the arrest was complete, officers searched Lopez and the items he had placed on the ground near him. They found $935 in small bills in his pocket and 17.6 grams of meth in seven separate bags. A glass pipe in a zippered pouch was also found.

When interviewed, Lopez said the money was for his rent and the drugs weren't his, but instead belonged to a man named "Boa." Lopez's criminal record includes a third-degree drug sale conviction in 2006 and a fifth-degree drug sale conviction in 2000.

According to the burglary complaint, police were called on May 7 to Regency Estates East, where a man and a woman said that the man was assaulted by Lopez with a stick. The woman had previously had a relationship with Lopez. The man's injuries included an eye that was almost swollen shut, bleeding from the nose and marks on his torso from being struck with the stick.
