According to a news release from Willmar Police Sgt. Michael Anderson, officers were called Thursday to investigate a hit and run along the 400 block of Trott Avenue Southeast. A 41-year-old woman reported that Jose Reyes had driven his vehicle alongside hers and forced her off the road into the yard of a residence.

Reyes had left the scene, but later admitted to police that he had rammed the woman's 2003 Ford Escape with his 1996 Plymouth Breeze, according to the accident report.

When officers went to Reyes' home, he allegedly brandished a knife and threatened to harm himself, according to the police report from the incident. He then barricaded himself inside a bedroom. The SWAT team was notified, and a Spanish-speaking deputy helped negotiate Reyes' surrender.

After he surrendered, he was taken into custody without further incident, according to the report. There were no shots fired or other force used in the incident.

Charges against Reyes include violating of an order for protection, second-degree assault, domestic assault and leaving the scene of an accident.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's office assisted during the incident.
