WILLMAR — Erik Ozornia, 25, of Willmar, made his first court appearance Thursday on two felony charges, for domestic assault and terroristic threats, for allegedly assaulting a woman and then dangling a 6-month-old baby out a second-story window Tuesday afternoon when Willmar police officers attempted to question him about the assault.

Ozornia also faces a gross misdemeanor charge of child endangerment. He was ordered held pending a Monday hearing in Kandiyohi County District Court regarding a probation violation in a July 2010 domestic assault case.

According to the complaint, police officers were first called Tuesday to a home in the southeast quadrant of the city on a domestic incident. A woman there reported that Ozornia had repeatedly assaulted and threatened her over the past month and that she feared for her safety and the safety of her children.

Officers went to a home along the 200 block of Augusta Avenue Southeast and located Ozornia in an upstairs bedroom. The complaint notes that Ozornia was hanging his body out a window, while holding the baby, with his torso outside of the window. He told officers to “stay back or I’m going to drop him” before climbing farther out the window, including putting a leg out the window opening.

One of the officers quickly stepped in to prevent the child from being dropped and Ozornia was subdued and placed under arrest. He has two prior convictions for assault, including a gross misdemeanor domestic assault conviction in December 2012 and a juvenile adjudication for third-degree assault in 2004.
