Davis Typewriter Co. Inc. has locations in Worthington and Marshall, and Ed Davis Business Machines is located in Willmar. The two companies will continue to operate and provide their other office supply, furniture, and related office products at their current locations. The employees that support their copier business have become part of the Marco team.

Ed Davis Business Machines has been in business in Willmar since 1962. Todd Davis, president of Ed Davis Business Machines, on Friday explained the reason for the sale.

"With the change in that technology, we felt that it was better that we probably pursue a different part of our business and they (Marco) had more expertise in the print managed services and the people to better take care of our customers in the future,'' he said.

"We felt now was the time to do it. So we're focusing more on office supplies and furniture and those types of products,'' he said.

"Our customers will receive the same excellent and reliable service and support from Marco Inc.," said Davis. "We would like to thank all of our customers for their past copier business and look forward to continuing to provide them with office supplies, furniture and related product areas."

Davis said the company had to let go three service technicians and one salesman associated with the copier business in the Willmar office as part of the sale. Davis said they had an opportunity to join the Marco team.

In September, Marco will open a new location in Worthington. Marco has been an authorized Sharp service and sales dealer since 1975.

"This ... acquisition continues our expansion in southern Minnesota and creates a local presence to bring our voice, data and video expertise to this market," said Jeff Gau, Marco CEO.

Over the past year, Marco has expanded into new markets including Rochester and Thief River Falls, and Decorah, Iowa, and Sioux Falls, S.D. Marco has 350 employees at its 13 locations throughout the Upper Midwest.
