NAPLES, FL - Margaret “Colleen” Smith, 86, of Naples, Florida, formerly of Willmar, passed away Friday, November 2, 2012 at Naples Community Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, www.hafh.org.

Colleen was born on September 19, 1926, in St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Louis and Susie (Kramer) Devitt. She attended school in St. Paul before moving to Willmar. She graduated from Willmar High School in 1944. After graduation she moved to Washington DC to work on the war effort as a Civil Service worker.

Colleen was united in marriage on November 3, 1951, to James E. Smith in Minneapolis. Colleen and Jim made their home in Willmar. This union was blessed with two children. Colleen was a homemaker until 1966 when her husband, Jim, was called home to Jesus. Colleen then went to work for Minnesota Electric Supply Company, retiring in 1991.

Colleen was a long time member of the Church of St. Mary where over the years she participated in the Daughters of Isabella, Adult Choir, Funeral Choir and helped with church bulk mailings.

Colleen was a member of the Willmar Does #124, serving as president in 1960 and received the honor of Doe of the Year in 1991. She also enjoyed her Wednesday afternoons spent with the Willmar Senior Citizens Group.

Colleen felt blessed to live in the same town as her granddaughters and cherished the time spent watching them grow into young women. She made it her business to attend their school activities as well as their many sporting events. Colleen also cherished her time with her grandsons, who recently visited her. Colleen enjoyed traveling, watching and attending sporting events, reading, counted cross-stitch, crossword puzzles and the company of her many treasured friends.

Surviving are her children, Jeff (and Jeanne) Smith of Anchorage, Alaska and Maureen (and Bob) Gillis of Naples, Florida; four grandchildren, Theresa (and Dominic) Wanchena, Kristen (and Cade) Copeland both of Naples; James and Owen Smith of Anchorage.

In addition to her husband, Jim, Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Patricia Higgins and a brother, William Devitt.
