MONTEVIDEO -- Margaret Tuininga, 90, of Montevideo, died Saturday at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in Montevideo. Burial will be in Leenthrop Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are by Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
She was born Sept. 28, 1918, in Phoenix, Ill., to John and Johanna (Rysdyk) Rynders. She grew up in Iowa and attended Hull Christian Grammar School. She worked as a housekeeper for her father and other families.
She married Harry Tuininga on July 10, 1941, in Hull, Iowa. They farmed near Boyden, Iowa, for 14 years before moving to a farm north of Montevideo in 1956. In 1981, they retired and moved to Pelican Rapids, where they lived until returning to Montevideo in 1990. She was a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the time of her death. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Montevideo where she taught Bible school, Sunday school and was a cook at summer Bible camps. She was a foster parent to 16 children from 1960 to 1980 and she babysat local children.
She is survived by three daughters: Beverly (and Gary) Schaller of Maynard, Lynda (and Paul) Huseby of Dassel and Marilyn (and Tom) Lopez of St. Paul; son-in-law: Gary Johnson of Montevideo; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one sister: Antonette Rynders of Edina.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002; a daughter: Patricia Johnson in 1990; five brothers; and seven sisters.
