Marguerite Kvam Oct. 6, 1922 - June 3, 2013

SPICER - Marguerite Estelle H. Kvam, age 90, of Spicer, passed away peacefully in the presence of her family on Monday, June 3, 2013, at Rice Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 13th at 11:00 am at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. A one hour visitation will be held prior to the service. A luncheon will follow the service. Arrangements are being completed by the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home,

Marguerite was born October 6, 1922, in Willmar to Martin and Eleanor (Swenson) Hansen. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church. As an only child, Marguerite spent her childhood in rural St. John’s and Willmar Townships. She raised Springer Spaniels and was a member of the Sunshine 4-H Club. After moving to Willmar, Marguerite was confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church and graduated from Willmar High School with the Class of 1940. She attended Willmar Business College and was employed for several years by the War Manpower Commission during WWII.

On October 4, 1947, Marguerite and Ivan “Ike” Kvam were united in Holy Matrimony at Bethel Lutheran Church. Ivan and Marguerite raised five children and recently celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary.

Marguerite was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church, where she taught Confirmation Classes, served on Altar Guild and performed deaconess duties. She was President of the Lutheran Church Women organization and a member of the Round Table Study Club. Marguerite enjoyed cooking, playing bridge with friends, reading, sharing stories, and the arts. Her youthful spirit and sense of humor put others at ease. She put the concerns of others before her own. Above all, Marguerite loved the Lord, her husband “Ike”, her family, her friends and just being at home on Green Lake enjoying the birds and nature. She was most grateful for the blessings that carried her through her life journey.

Marguerite is survived by her husband, “Ike” their family, Phillip (Satomi), Ann Quale (Bruce), Mark (Margie), Susan Kresa (Jerry) and Thomas, grandchildren, Mark Quale (LaRayne), Jeff Quale (Molly), Kathleen Kvam (Matt), and Michael Kvam.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Eleanor, and several aunts and uncles.

Marguerite, loving mother and gracious lady, will be missed beyond words by her entire family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Vinje Lutheran Pastor’s Discretionary Fund, Lutheran Social Services or an organization of choice.
