Marian Martin June 15, 1924 - Nov. 28, 2008
MONTEVIDEO -- Marian Louise Martin, 84, of Evansville, formerly of Montevideo, died Friday at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Maynard. Burial will be in Shelby Cemetery, Shelby, Iowa.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Montevideo and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born June 15, 1924, in Springfield, Mo., to Norman and Omega (Garner) Franklin. She graduated high school in Springfield and apprenticed at a beauty shop.
She married Ray Ware on June 15, 1941, Ozark, Mo. They lived in Springfield, Mo., Tulsa, Okla., and San Antonio. After World War II, she volunteered at O'Riley Veteran's Hospital in Springfield, Mo.
She married Melvin Martin on Feb. 6, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo. They lived in Harlan, Iowa., rural Battle Lake, Alexandria, Fergus Falls, Palm Bay, Fla., and Bolivar, Mo., finally living in Montevideo. Following Melvin's death, she moved to Clara City and Evansville. She spent winters in Florida and Santa Fe, N.M. She was a member of a homemaker's group as well as the American Legion, VFW and DAV auxiliaries.
She is survived by her children: Judith (and Dennis) Helle of Ashby, David (and Margaret) Martin of Alexandria, Nancy (and James) Stokes of Ottertail, and Kerry (and Jan) Martin of Thornton, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; son: Ronald; and two grandchildren.
