Marie Schumacher Jan. 31, 1909 - Oct. 1, 2009

RENVILLE -- Marianna Marie Schumacher, 100, of rural Renville, died Thursday at her home.

The service was Monday at Middle Creek United Methodist Church in Renville County. Private inurnment will be at Redwood Falls Cemetery. Arrangements were by Nelson-Martin Funeral Service of Redwood Falls.

She was born Jan. 31, 1909, in Olivia to Dirk and Amelia (Kaatz) Bonkenberg. She graduated from Olivia High School in 1927 and graduated from Mankato Teachers College in 1929. She taught until shortly before her marriage.

She married Dewayne Schumacher on April 19, 1934. They farmed and raised turkeys in Renville County. Dewayne died in 1982. She later moved to Austin, Texas, to be near her daughter.

She was a member of Middle Creek United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was in WSWS. She was involved in the Renville County Historical Society, for which she had served as president, and the Union Home Mission. She also served as a 4-H leader.

She is survived by her daughters: Patricia Schumacher of Yucaipa, Calif., Alice Lee of Rapid City, S.D., Susan (and Jim) Chapin-Strike of Austin, Texas; son: Kay (and Nancy) Schumacher of Naples, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.
