Marlys Roisum Jan. 12, 1939 - Sept. 14, 2008
SUNBURG -- Marlys LuAnn Roisum, 69, formerly of rural Sunburg, died Sunday at University Good Samaritan Center in Minneapolis.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Kerkhoven Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 pm Thursday at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born Jan. 12, 1939, in Arctander Township, Kandiyohi County, to Melvin and Bernice (Fransen) Swanson. The family lived on farms between Kerkhoven and Sunburg until moving to Los Angeles in 1948. They returned to Kerkhoven in 1951. She graduated from Kerkhoven High School in 1957 and continued her education at the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, graduating in 1958. She worked for Northwestern National Life Insurance until 1963.
She married Dwain Roisum on July 27, 1963, in Kerkhoven. They lived in Kerkhoven until 1972, when they moved to the Roisum farm in rural Sunburg. She worked for Johnson, Schmidt and Thompson from 1963 until 1966. In 1984, she started work at N.F.I. as the bookkeeper and sales associate, retiring in 1995. She was a member of Kerkhoven Lutheran and had served on the altar guild and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Music Mothers and played in a bridge club. She moved to Willmar in 2002 and, in July 2006, to University Good Samaritan Center in Minneapolis.
She is survived by her children: Jill (and John) Benson of Willmar and Steven (and Nicole) Roisum of LaCrosse, Wis.; four grandchildren; and one sister: Judy Nelson of Little Canada.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001, one brother and one sister.
