Marshall Thorstad, age 75, of Danube died Tuesday evening, May 6, 2014, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 13th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia with Deacon Bob Reitsema officiating. Visitation is Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Trefoldighed Cemetery, Battle Lake, MN. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia.

Marshall Dale Thorstad was born May 27, 1938 at Battle Lake, MN to William and Myrtle (Ness) Thorstad. He was baptized and confirmed at his home church where he is still a member, First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake, MN. He graduated from Battle Lake High School. Marsh graduated from Moorhead State University where he also played baseball. He received his Masters degree from NDSU in the School of Administration and received his Specialization degree in the School of Administration from SCSU. He was united in marriage to Maylon Huebsch in August of 1968 and they were blessed with three sons. His career included: served in the United States Army and the Army National Guard; Member of MN Principals Association; taught at St. Marys High School in Bird Island and Lanesboro High School; Athletic Director for Lanesboro and Danube High Schools; Principal at Danube High School, DRSH, BDRSH, and RCW; served on the MN State High School League for many years as Coordinator for many regional and section events; and 212 Athletic Conference Coordinator.

Marsh cherished his wife and sons. He never missed any of their sporting events, and continued to be present at their games as they moved into their coaching careers. Marsh loved being outside and taking nature walks through the Battle Lake woods with his wife, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. Summers at the lake with Grandpa will forever be etched in all of our hearts.

Marsh is survived by his wife Maylon Thorstad of Danube; his three sons, their wives and his grandchildren: Todd ( and Michelle) and Trenton, Sydney, and Ty of Spicer; Jeff ( and Kim) and Abbey and Logan of Lindstrom; Greg (and Sarah) and Marshall John and Nolan of Hanover; his sister Grace (and Tom) Stoebe of Battle Lake; and his brother Willis (and Kathy) Thorstad of Austin,TX. Marsh was preceded in death by his parents.
