M. Irene Johnson, 87, formerly of Murdock, passed away on Sunday, May 11, at Golden Living Center, in Franklin. Her memorial service will be at 2 pm Saturday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home, in Willmar. There will be a visitation from 12-2 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, in Murdock. Martha Irene Johnson was born on August 7, 1926 to Victor and Annie (Edberg) Nelson. Growing up she lived in Louriston Township, in Chippewa County. Irene and her family attended Zion Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed at. She attended high school in Clara City and graduated in 1944. After high school, Irene attended St. Cloud College and graduated with a degree in teaching. She taught at a country school for one year before marrying Floyd Johnson on June 7, 1947, at Grandpa and Grandma Nelson's farm. After marriage, Floyd and Irene moved to the farm outside of Murdock, where they lived until 2009. Irene was known for being a great seamstress. She made many beautiful wedding and bridesmaid dress. She also worked for an Interior Design Studio, and made many drapes. She was also involved with Ladies Aid at Calvary Lutheran Church, in Murdock and VFW Axillary. Irene also took pleasure in gardening; at home she had a large vegetable garden enjoyed planting and caring for the vegetables.
Irene is survived by her children: Pam (David) Oelslager of Raymond, Harlie Johnson of Willmar, and Robert (Tammy) Johnson of Roseau; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Velma (Wayne) Johnson, Karen Shea and Edythe Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, parents, and siblings: Margaret Murphy, Harold Nelson and Ruben Nelson.
