MURDOCK -- Martin John Walsh Jr., 83, of Bennett, Wis., formerly of Murdock, died Saturday at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the church with a parish prayer service at 4 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements with the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.
He was born Dec. 7, 1924, in Murdock to Martin Sr. and Jannet (Foley) Walsh. He grew up in Murdock and graduated from Murdock High School in 1942. He attended St. Thomas University in St. Paul and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He married Margaret Glieden on Sept. 27, 1958, in St. Cloud. They divorced in 1974.
He married Martha Brinda in 1993. He was employed by Great Northern/Burlington Northern Railway from 1943 to 1984 and was a station agent and telegraph agent in many different towns. He lived in Minneapolis at the time of his retirement and volunteered at St. Stephen's Catholic Church. He moved to his son's home in Bennett, Wis. four years ago. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus 2029 in Litchfield.
He is survived by his children: Paul (and Chris) Walsh of Bennett, Wis., Jannet Walsh of Ocala, Fla.; six grandchildren and his former wife of South Range, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his son: David Walsh; his second wife in 2003; and one sister.
