Marvin H. Hackbarth Aug. 2, 1921 - June 30, 2009
HUTCHINSON --Marvin Herman Hackbarth, 87, of Cosmos, died Tuesday at the Birchwood Hospice House in Hutchinson.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church in Cosmos. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post 126.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born Aug. 2, 1921, in Cosmos to Emil and Betsy (Larson) Hackbarth. He grew up and attended elementary school in Cosmos and graduated from Litchfield High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army following graduation. He served in Africa, Italy and other parts of Europe during World War II. Upon his return, he joined his father at the family's International Harvester dealership, eventually taking over the business.
He married Della Wolter on May 10, 1946. They lived in Cosmos and later lived on Lake Minnie Belle. He spent his winters in Lake Worth, Fla.
He served on the hospital and school boards. He was a 60-year member of American Legion Post 126 in Cosmos.
He is survived by his children: Rebecca (and Gary) Moehnke of Burnsville and James (and Shirley) Hackbarth of Cosmos, four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; special friend: Luella Nelson of Cosmos; siblings: Eldon (and Mary) Hackbarth of Uruguay and Mildred (and Lorrie) Werner of Cosmos.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son: Gene; and a sister.
