Marvin John Mahn was born on July 29, 1918 on the family farm in Harrison Township north of Atwater. He grew up in that area and received his education in the Atwater Schools. Marvin worked on the family farm until he joined the Army in 1942 and served in the South Pacific during WW II. He returned to Atwater after his discharge in 1945 and continued to work on the family farm. On October 9, 1947, he was married to Myrtle E. Holtz in Forest City, Minnesota, and they made their home on the farm north of Atwater. They continued to farm and milk cows until Marvins retirement in 1981 and moved into Atwater to live. Marvin continued to help his sons with the farm work. He may have left the farm but his heart never left. They moved to Copperleaf Assisted Living in Willmar in 2011 and then to Bethesda Heritage Center in September of 2012. He was a life long member of St. John Lutheran Church and had served as custodian, sexton of the cemetery, member of the cemetery board and served on the St. John School Board. Marvin enjoyed growing a vegetable garden and one of his greatest joys in life was visits from his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle of Willmar, two sons; Lloyd (and Kathy) Mahn of Atwater and Brian Mahn of Atwater and two daughters; Marilyn (and Harold) Lundin of Litchfield and Ardis (and Dan) Denn of Lake City.
