BIRD ISLAND -- Mary C. "Marie" Wohnoutka, 94, of Bird Island died Thursday at the Renville County Hospital in Olivia.
The service will be at 1:15 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Bird Island with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
She was born Jan. 31, 1915, on the family farm in Henryville Township, rural Olivia, to John and Emma (Wilt) Frank. She grew up on the family farm.
She married Joseph Wohnoutka on Sept. 12, 1933. They farmed east of Bird Island and, in 1977, retired and moved to Bird Island. They moved to Fairview Place in Olivia in 1996. Three years ago, she became a resident at Elmwood Estates in Bird Island. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She is survived by eight children: Maynard (and Vivian) Wanetka of Omaha, Neb., Marie (and Bernie) Barkow of Florida, Harvey (and Dede) Wohnoutka of Bird Island, Katie (and Pat) Kneefe of New Ulm, Bernie (and Tony) Ziller of Bird Island, Rose (and John) O'Brien of Deerwood, John (and Mary) Wohnoutka of Plymouth, and Joni (and Chris) Keltgen of Olivia; 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; son-in-law: Jerry Dunning; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; four brothers; and three sisters.
