Mary E. Baklund, 75 of Willmar died on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna. Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Thursday at Willmar Assembly of God. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org
Mary Eleanor Baklund was born August 9, 1938, in Prinsburg, the daughter of Louis and Martha (Gray) Tazelaar. She grew up in Roseland, attended school in Roseland and Danube, and graduated Willmar High School. Following graduation she attended Nursing School and earned her LPN Degree. Mary was united in marriage to Clair E. Baklund on October 5, 1957 in Willmar, MN. They lived in several states while Clair served in the US Marine Corp and worked for Boeing. They returned to the Willmar area in 1969 and lived many years on Solomon Lake in Dovre Township. Mary worked several years as an LPN and industrial nurse at Jennie-O Foods.
Mary was a member of Assembly of God in Willmar where she enjoyed singing in the choir and was active in various Bible study groups. She enjoyed attending Home Extension meetings with neighbors, reading and visiting family and friends. The last few years she attended Active Older Adult classes and the Willmar YMCA and enjoyed getting together with former classmates.
Surviving are her children: Brad (and Barb) Baklund of Rogers, MN, Kim (and Richard) Baker of Byron, MN, Robin (and Kevin) Norby of Chaska, MN, and David Baklund of St. Paul, MN; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters: Bev (and Don) Hamre of Erskin, MN, Linda (and Joel) Lundquist of Burnsville MN, Cindy (and Arne) Olson of Lincolin, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Clair on June 30, 1991.
