Mary Sing Feb. 18, 1923 - Aug. 14, 2013
BIRD ISLAND - Mary Sing, age 90, of Bird Island died Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Glen Oaks in New London. Funeral services are Saturday 2:00 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bird Island with Rev. Greg Hall officiating. Burial is in the Morton City Cemetery. Visitation is Saturday at the church for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service in Bird Island.
Mary Lucille Sing was born February 18, 1923 on the family farm at Franklin, MN, to Oscar and Esther (Brookman) Grimes. She grew up on this farm and attended school at Franklin. On January 25, 1946 she married Delbert Sing. They made their home in Bird Island and were blessed with four sons. Besides being a homemaker Mary worked from 1965 to 1986 for Fingerhut, Wiman, and BW Harris, all manufacturers of winter clothing. Delbert preceded her in death in 1980 and she maintained her own home until two years ago when she moved to Glen Oaks at New London. Mary was a faithful member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bird Island and had enjoyed working in the church food stand at the Renville County Fair for many years. Marys hobbies included doing word find and crossword puzzles as well as quilting with the ladies at church.
Mary is survived by her four children: Willis and Joy Sing of St. James, Allen and Fran Sing of New London, Wayne Sing of New London and Tony Sing of Hutchinson; her 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and her brother Robert (and Arlene) Grimes of Peterson. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Delbert, her great-granddaughter Kayla, and several brothers and sisters.
