Mathias R. Kotzenmacher Aug. 13, 1925 - March 10, 2009
WILLMAR -- Mathias "Math" R. Kotzenmacher, 83, of Willmar, died Tuesday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar with parish prayer service at 4:30 p.m. and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7 p.m. and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born Aug. 13, 1925, near Parkston, S.D., to John and Anna (Hebaus) Kotzenmacher. He grew up in the Parkston area and moved with his family to rural Priam around 1935. He continued his education in the District 80 rural school. He moved to Willmar in 1947.
On May 29, 1954, he married Adeline Halls in Willmar. He worked for the Minnesota Highway Department for more than 40 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Church of St. Mary, where he sang in the church choir, served as an usher for more than 50 years, was a third-degree Knight of Columbus and was active with the Catholic Aid Association. He was also a member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Union.
He is survived by his wife; seven children: Linda (and Steven) Johnson of White Bear Lake, Jerry (and Cynthia) Kotzenmacher of Inver Grove Heights, Gregory (and Annette) Kotzenmacher, Steven (and Lori Morton) Kotzenmacher, Ronald (and Lorri) Kotzenmacher, Diane (and Todd) Birkland, Karen Swenson, all of Willmar; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; siblings: Joe Kotzenmacher of Raymond, Rose Hirman of Cokato, Mary Svobodny of Willmar and Betty (and Bud) Sjoquist of Coon Rapids.
He was preceded in death by two brothers; and two sisters, one in infancy.
