Maynard looking to remember its veterans
MAYNARD -- The story of James Hartney is the stuff for a blockbuster movie.
The Irish immigrant enlisted in 1861, served with the Army of the Potomac in the Civil War and took part in the second battle of Bull Run, the battles of Antietam, Fredricksburg and Chancellorsville, where he was wounded three times and taken prisoner. A prisoner exchange sent him to a hospital in Baltimore and he missed the battle of Gettysburg.
