APPLETON -- Maynard Norton Estwick, 93, of Appleton, died Wednesday at Appleton Area Health Services after a short illness.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton.

He was born Jan. 26, 1916, at Langford, S.D., to Emanuel and Manda (Stegen) Estwick. He graduated from Langford High School in 1934. He enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps and was stationed at Camp Pactola in the Black Hills for two years. He moved to Minnesota in 1938 and worked as a bookkeeper for the Hanson Silo Company at Lake Lillian. He was drafted into the Army in 1941 and served in several camps in the United States and overseas in Europe and Japan. He was a chief warrant officer when he was discharged in 1946.

He married Eva E. Miller on Jan. 10, 1944. They lived for nine years in Aberdeen, S.D., where he worked for the Farmers Lumber Company. In 1955 they moved to Milan where he worked for Strand Hardware and Lumber, and later Strand of Milan until his retirement in 1986.

He spent many years doing volunteer work after he retired. He was a member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan, Gideons International, and the American Legion at Milan and the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Appleton.

He is survived by his wife; three sisters: Doris Strom of Groton, S.D., Dorothy Gathright of Aberdeen, S.D., and Hazel Holm of Aberdeen, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his daughter: Joyce, in 1969; one brother; and two sisters.
