Mayors tax reform group will hold area meeting Friday in Granite Falls, Minn.
GRANITE FALLS -- Area residents are welcome and encouraged to attend an open meeting of the Mayors Tax Reform Advisory Group from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Kilowatt Community Center in Granite Falls.
Department of Revenue Commissioner Myron Frans will host the meeting, the fourth in a series being held across the state.
Gov. Mark Dayton appointed 15 mayors to the group. It is charged with reviewing and discussing policy issues related to Local Government Aid, specifically on how to best pay for local services while holding local property taxes down.
The work of this advisory group will directly support Governor Dayton's comprehensive tax reform proposal, which will be presented to the 2013 legislature.
The group is co-chaired by Mayors R.T. Rybak of Minneapolis and Dave Kleis of St. Cloud. Mayor Dave Smiglewski of Granite Falls is among the members.
