MBA avenges loss to Willmar

BENSON -- Morris/Benson Area scored four unanswered goals and rallied to beat Willmar 7-4 in a non-conference girls hockey game Friday.

The Cardinals (4-14) scored the first goal of every period and netted the first two of the third to take a 4-3 lead. Ashley Hutton tallied an unassisted, shorthanded goal six minutes into the period, then Taylor Sandberg scored her second goal of the game with an assist to Rebecca Freese to give Willmar its final lead.

But the Storm (10-4) rattled off four goals in the last 5:30, starting with a Brooke Anderson unassisted goal and ending with Sam Falk's empty-net goal with six seconds left.

Sandberg netted the first goal of the game on a power play, but MBA scored twice to take a 2-1 lead.

Chelsey Wierschem recorded the first goal of the second period on another power play opportunity to tie the game, but Dani Schultz scored her second goal, unassisted, at 8:20 that allowed MBA to retake the lead.

Bailey Young had 22 saves in goal for the Cardinals. Brooke Anderson recorded 27 saves for the Storm, including 17 in the second period.
