Mayor to present budget proposal

WILLMAR -- Willmar Mayor Les Heitke will present his proposed 2009 budget for the city at Monday's meeting of the Willmar City Council.

The council meets at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at the Willmar Municipal Utilities building, 700 Litchfield Ave. S.W.

The mayor's budget proposal outlines what the city will spend next year on services ranging from street improvements to law enforcement.

The meeting will be preceded by a closed session at 6 p.m. to discuss a lawsuit by Warren and Jan Jorgenson. The Jorgensons are suing the city over flood damage that destroyed their home last summer. Minnesota's Open Meeting Law allows public boards to conduct a closed session to discuss litigation.

County Board meets Tuesday

WILLMAR -- Interim funding for court-appointed attorneys in child protection cases will be discussed Tuesday during the Kandiyohi County Board of Commissioners meeting.

The issue is scheduled to be discussed at 10 a.m. with County Attorney Boyd Beccue and Family Services Director Jay Kieft.

Other items on the agenda include a resolution for a septic loan program with the Hawk Creek Watershed, a grant resolution with the Shakopee Creek Headwaters and issues concerning building codes with the Dovre town hall.

At 11 a.m. action will be taken on conditional use permits.

At 11:15 a.m. the board will meet as the community health board to discuss a tobacco citation.

Prior to the regular board meeting, the commissioners will discuss family service issues at 9 a.m. Commissioners will hear an overview from Arc Kandiyohi County and take action on a number of contracts.

The commissioners meet at the Health and Human Services building at 2200 23rd St. N.E.
