WILLMAR--Steve Meier of Willmar cruised at a sub-6 minute pace to win the first Hotdish Hunger 5k Walk/Run Sunday afternoon.

Sponsored by Eagle Lake Lutheran Church, the event raised funds for local food shelves, and provided a post-race hot dish meal for participants.

Meier, 40, who is pastor at the church, crossed the finish line in 17:54. Kaia Jo Jans, of Milford, Iowa, led women runners finishing in 22:58, with 12-year-old Jessa Hanson only one second back.

The course started at the church, followed 15th Street NE, along Skataas Lake, and looped through Sunray Addition.

About 12 adults and children participated in a 1-mile fun walk/run.
