Melvin A. Moe, 87, of Willmar, died, Friday, July 11th at Bethesda Pleasant View in Willmar. His funeral was 2:00 pm, Monday, July 14th at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be today, Tuesday, July 15th at 12:35 pm, Assembly Area #6 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Arrangements were with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Memorials preferred to Rice Hospice or Memory Care at Bethesda Pleasant View. www.hafh.org

Melvin was born on April 15, 1927, in Brooten, Minnesota the son of Oscar and Dena (Larson) Moe. He grew up on a farm north of Georgeville, but spent a lot of time in the Belgrade and Brooten area. He moved to Willmar when he was 17 to begin working for the municipal utilities before being drafted into the United States Army. He served in the Army as a Field Wireman from 1948 1950, having spent time in Japan. Upon his honorable discharge, Melvin returned to Willmar and resumed working at the utilities, eventually being a Line Foreman and Line Superintendent.

On November 15, 1952, he was united in marriage to Adeline Harriet Larson at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. They lived in Willmar and Melvin continued to work for Willmar Municipal Utilities, retiring in 1983. They wintered for a number of years in Arizona before moving there in 1995.

Melvin was an active member of American Legion Post #167 and VFW Post #1639, being a lifetime member of both. He served as Past Commander of the VFW, 5th District Commander and also served at the state level in different capacities.

His family remembers his love of traveling with Adeline. Melvin enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout the years but he was an exceptional bowler and pool player. Even as his health failed, Melvin could still beat the "boys" in pool; however, the best times he ever had was the time spent with his children and their families, always enjoying and playing with the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are his children, Ron (and Cathy) Moe of Willmar; Rick (and Sandy) Moe of Berthoud, CO; Ruth (and Todd) Starz of Sioux Falls, SD; Randy (and Chris) Moe of Willmar; eight grandchildren, Teresa (and Robert) Weston, Erin (and Daryl) Lundin, Heather (and Eric) Marcus, Katie (and Tyler) Martin, Shawna Baumann, Tracy Alexander, Randy Moe and Deena (and Matthew) Peterson; 16 great grandchildren, Claire and Greta Marcus, Adeline and Genevieve Lundin, Zoe Martin, Mona and Margo Peterson, Cole Steen, Chris, Katie and Boston Weston, Ben Smith, Beau Swanson, Brittney, Dustin and Hayli Moe. Also surviving are his sister, Aileen Weber of Dassel.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Adeline, brother, Donald, infant sister, Doris and grandson, Timothy Moe.
