Membership at 188 for community-owned grocery planned in Willmar, Minn.

WILLMAR -- Organizers of the drive to establish a community-owned grocery have added 65 members-owners during the past month, bringing the total to 188. Organizers say they need 300 member-owners to proceed with the effort of opening the grocery in downtown Willmar.

The full-service grocery store will have everything from fresh meats, cheeses, dairy and produce to bulk and dry goods. Customers will be able to buy all their groceries at one location, according to organizers.

The store will emphasize local foods. Both fresh, local yet conventionally grown foods, as well as organic foods, will be available under the same roof. Some foods not grown locally will be brought in from outside the region.
