WILLMAR -- The Ridgewater men's basketball team started strong but couldn't maintain the pace and lost to Rochester 80-66 in a MCAC Southern Division game Wednesday night at Ridgewater.

The Warriors fell to 0-7 in the league and 6-15 overall. They now are on the road for four games before returning for their final regular-season home game Feb. 25 against Fergus Falls.

Against Rochester, the Warriors took a 12-5 lead in the first six minutes of the game, but Rochester outscored Ridgewater 23-7 over the next seven minutes, and they took a 35-29 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Rochester shifted its offense into top gear, shooting 61 percent from the field and scoring 45 points a cruising to the finish.

Cody Warner led the Warriors with 20 points and 8 rebounds, and teammates Neil Helgeson and Tyler Pendleton both scored 16 points. Pendleton also had 6 rebounds, and Jake Ruhland had 5 boards and 5 assists. But the Warriors managed on 33 percent shooting in the second half and 36 percent for the game.
