Men's basketball: West free throws top Warriors

WILLMAR — Minnesota West loved the line on Saturday in the Ridgewater College gym.
The Bluejays made 21 of 25 free throw attempts (84 percent) to help spill the Warriors 80-70 in the MCAC South.
The Willmar team had five more field goals and a huge 58-35 margin in rebounds but couldn’t stop the Jays, who were coming off a 107-97 loss to Western Wisconsin.
The Warriors got balance scoring: Terrance Lockett 18 points, Neil Helgeson 15, Melvin Kromah 10 and Jeremy Olson 9. Lockett snared 14 rebounds and Kromah 8.
For West, which built a 43-29 lead by half, Cody Harris scored 22 and Luke Roddy and Mitch Hopkins 10 each. Four other Jays scored either eight or nine points.
Both Ridgewater and Minn. West is fighting for a playoff spot along with Riverland. Rochester and Fergus are virtual locks for the postseason.
