WILLMAR -- Merrill Elwood Sundlee, 76, of Willmar, died Monday at St. Cloud Hospital.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 167 of Willmar.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are by Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
He was born Aug. 30, 1932, in Lac qui Parle County, near Montevideo, to Sigurd and Esther (Haugen) Sundlee. He attended school in District 15 and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1950. He served in the Army from 1951 to 1952 during the Korean War and was stationed at Camp Rucker, Ala., and Fort Sill, Okla. He returned home and farmed with his brother.
He married Shirley Ann Saue on Oct. 17, 1953, in Montevideo. He worked at Schall's Mobil, Farmer's Co-op Creamery, Anderson Super Service and Brandon Tire before becoming a partner in Monte Tire & Service. They retired in 1996 and moved to Willmar where he worked for several years at Central Tire in Willmar. He was a member of Vinje Lutheran Church, Valley Golf Club and the American Legion where he served on the honor guard.
He is survived by his wife; children: Mark Sundlee of Willmar and Pam (and Chris) Meinert, of Willmar; two grandsons; two stepgrandaughters; siblings: Orlin (and Verna) Sundlee of Brooklyn Center, Kenneth (and Delores) Sundlee of Montevideo, Dennis (and LaVonne) Sundlee of Montevideo, Loren (and Debbie) Sundlee of Yakima, Wash., Mary Ann (and Gordon) Jaenisch of rural Maynard and Sharon Olson of Lake Stevens, Wash.
He was preceded in death by an infant son: Larry Sundlee.
